The Modern-Age Gorgon

This is actually a redrawing of the character I designed for that Darkstalkers contest back in December of 2012. Feels sorta weird that a year's already passed since then. Anyways, I didn't even get an honorable mention in the contest results, but whatever. I came across the original drawing a few days ago and liked her design too much to resist drawing her over.

Background Story

Years after Medusa's demise at the hands of Perseus, one of her sisters, Euryale, met a blind man. Unable to be affected by her stone gaze, the man was actually capable of speaking with the gorgon. As time went on, the two became close friends and, even later, lovers. This resulted in a child, one who looked completely human. Raven hair and bold green eyes. Her parents wanted to raise her themselves but knew their life of isolation wouldn't be a good environment for her. So, in the darkness of night, Euryale dropped the baby off on the doorstep of a couple who were struggling to even successfully conceive a child.

The baby's new family named her Petra Apeiros and they loved her very much. As she grew up she discovered she was much more physically able than a normal human. Her wounds healed quickly, she had the strength of ten men, and her stamina was incredible. Petra's parents cared little for the cause of her gifts and simply considering them a blessing from the heavens. As time went on and her parents aged, Petra remained largely the same with her body halting its aging in her high twenties. Once her parents passed from natural causes the pain of the loss forced Petra into her true form for the briefest of moments. Her hair turned into snakes and her eyes gained slit-like pupils. It was at this point that she gradually became obsessed with finding the source of her abilities. This search put her into isolation from the world at large for hundreds of years.

In the present age a young woman entered American society, swiftly rising through the ladder using her beauty, intelligence, and, when  needed, ferocity. She can often be found mingling with the rich and powerful, gaining allies and sealing deals for her growing corporation. The woman's name is Petra Apeiros and she has long learned that there are other beings likes her, many of which hide in the dark.

What better way to draw them out than to put oneself in the spotlight and near the top of society?
